What a day! Let me tell you, what I love about doing family shoots is the ability to get small moments and interactions. I loved how Jessica's kids were so adventurous and free spirited. It was so special for me to be able to see this and capture them as they zoomed down trails, climbed trees and had fun together as a family.
What made this shoot for me was what Jessica told me at the end of the shoot, "This was not a stressful family shoot!" Why was that so meaningful? If you have kids you know the answer to that!
But that did get me thinking - "WHY wasn't this shoot as stressful?" Partly, I love kids! But also, I have a specific strategy that I used. First, I focused on motion and play - most of our shoot was spent walking to and from the main destination (the bridge). Yes, we took the family pictures all together at the bridge, but on the way there and on the way back I got all the best ones (in my opinion). In this way, the Freemen weren't focused on having to look perfect, it was about being together - which is way less stressful!
